Netflix Shows to Catch Before 2017

2016 has proved another successful year for Netflix. Boasting new hit series’ such as Stranger Things and renewing already loved shows like Narcos and Orange is the New Black, Netflix has a line up to challenge many of the top television networks. We’ve put together a list of upcoming shows to catch before the year is out.

HATERS BACK OFF – FRIDAY OCTOBER 14TH

This half-hour comedy series comes from Colleen Ballinger, better known by her YouTube alter-ego of Miranda Sings. The entertainer from Washington has amassed a count of over seven million subscribers on YouTube and will carry the same oddball antics onto the small screen with a series that centres around “the family life of Miranda Sings, an incredibly confident, totally untalented star on the rise who continues to fail upward by the power of her belief that she was born famous – it’s just no one knows it yet”. You can catch Colleen’s Netflix debut when the eight-episode series drops on October 14th.

THE CROWN – LATER THIS YEAR

This regal themed drama follows the story of Queen Elizabeth II just after World War 2, showing how she and the prime ministers of the time shaped the country after the conflict. The show will focus on the insides of famous buildings such as Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street, featuring familiar cast members such as former Doctor Matt Smith. Big things are expected of a show that boasts the biggest ever budget of a programme hosted on Netflix, shilling out £100 million to portray this biographical look at the monarch. A release date has not been confirmed but expect this show to drop in either October or November.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS – LATE 2016

This upcoming series brings the popular book series by Lemony Snicket to Netflix, relying on the same source material in which a group of orphans are sent to live with their cousin Count Olaf. This first season will be spread across eight one hour episodes and will star How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris. Expect to see this in November or December.

FRONTIER - LATE 2016

Game of Thrones fans will recognise the star of this upcoming historical drama set during 18th century America. Jason Mamoa leads the cast that includes Downton Abbey stars in a drama that will appeal to fans of last years The Revenant starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Full of bloody, brutal fights and combat, look for this series to appear on Netflix around December.
