BEST AND WORST: EMA's red carpet highs & lows

BEST

JOURDAN DUNN

A photo posted by Jourdan Dunn (@jourdandunn) on

British model Jourdan Dunn is no stranger to stealing the show when it comes to red carpets and the MTV EMAs were no different.

This Balmain chainmail gown could easily have looked cheap on the wrong woman but Dunn's gorgeous long-legged silhouette suited this sultry outfit down to the ground.

Dunn is never too much, she isn't drowned in expensive jewels to assist her look and the slicked back straight hair does nothing to distract from her dress, so it's all eyes on the gown and all the better for it.

It's rare for Dunn not to stun on the red carpet but this time she really stole the show, shimmering down with the red carpet oozing both sex and class. It's a definite win with us.

WINNIE HARLOW

Winnie Harlow, who shot to fame after appearing on America's Next Top Model in 2014, brought a touch of Halloween to the red carpet in Roberto Cavalli last night and absolutely WORKED it.

Dripping in lace, this is another look that was somewhat risque and could easily have looked a little too dark and vampy for such a glitzy event but it adds just enough drama in it's cut and sheer fabric touches.

It's very rare to bring gothic glamour to the red carpet but on a night when many played it safe, Winnie ensured that black does not spell boring in an intricate gown that dazzled.

CHARLI XCX

It's a look that appears to have divided the net, fashion bloggers and social media alike but in what was largely quite a dull and inspiring red carpet, Charli XCX was on hand to splash a whole paint bucket of colour all over the EMAs last night.

Charli is never one to keep a low profile on the red carpet and can always be relied on to give you something a bit wild with a touch of rebellion - and this Henry Holland designed two piece did just that and as far as we're concerned it's a winner of a look.

The garish pink was bedazzled with pink pailettes which brought a touch of disco glamour to the party and the style of mixing a crop top with flared bottoms felt super throwback but hit all the right spots to make the look feel completely finished.

There was no missing Charli at this event and some would say for all the wrong reasons but we love that she broke all the rules. Isn't that what Ms XCX is all about?!

NINA DOBREV

After Charli XCX, it's probably time to reign it back in with Nina Dobrev who kept it classy and timeless with a simple lilac column dress that no columnist could argue with an absolute stunner.

Nina's slim figure would surely look supremely elegant in whatever she wore but this Elle Saab number was a glove-like fit and the belt at the waist accentuated this desirable figure.

The delicate tone of lilac was enough that it didn't overwhelm her but made sure all eyes were on her in a total 'wow' moment that required none of the shock tactics that Jourdan and Winnie brought in with their more revealing looks.

The one word that springs to mind when looking at Nina is simply "class"... especially when you come to see the girls of Geordie Shore later on in the article.

TINIE TEMPAH

When it comes to men on the red carpet, you can almost always count on Tinie Tempah to bring his impeccable slick styling and the EMAs were no exception to this rule.

We're convinced Tinie could rock up to these events in a bin bag and he'd somehow look pretty dapper but luckily he opted for a plaid suit designed by none other than Gucci. The man knows his fashion.

The 28-year-old rapper matched blazer and trousers in a brave houndstooth pattern which was by no means a look that blended in; giving the ladies of the red carpet a run for their money in the fashion stakes.

If anybody could pull off a houndstooth suit, it's got to be Tinie and the bow tie is just that extra touch to looking super sharp.

WORST

CHARLOTTE CROSBY

A photo posted by Charlotte Letitia Crosby (@charlottegshore) on

By no means did Charlotte look awful last night but from one of the most flamboyant and wacky reality TV stars that the UK has to offer, we were like a feeling of "is that it?"

The strapless black number was complimentary of her figure but that is nearly all that we can compliment of this look which is hardly a winner in the LBD stakes if you really must wear one to Europe's biggest music awards of the year.

The shape of the dress was pretty unexciting and the cutouts looked like a cheap addition that were tacked on to try and bring a bit of risk to an otherwise very safe number.

Come on Charlotte, where's the fun and vibrant girl we all fell in love with?!

ANNE MARIE

She might be set to top the charts with Clean Bandit in the UK this week, but if there's somewhere she isn't #1, it's definitely in the fashion stakes.

This mesh mini dress did absolutely nothing for Anne-Marie's figure, with the shape making her look much fuller than she is, while the gold choker did little to add any glamour to this style choice.

Finally, she finished the outfit off with a pair of clumpy Doc Martens which, while we're sure she was very comfy in, did nothing to make the outfit feels even more incomplete and ill-advised.

ELETRA LAMBORGHINI

When you step on the red carpet alongside some of music's biggest names, it's perhaps somewhat understandable that a completely unknown reality TV star like Eletra Lamborghini would resort to shock tactics to grab the attention and well... she certainly did it in this outfit.

Lamborghini, who stars in the Italian version of Geordie Shore (no, we didn't know this was a thing either), turned heads for all of the wrong reasons in a sheer jumpsuit which left next to nothing to the imagination and showed off some equally as tacky leopard print tattoos.

Bearing her nipples and bum for all to see, it's probably quite easy to see why she was cast for 'Super Shore' as there's certainly little left to the imagination when looking at this outfit, but it certainly wouldn't have done her any harm to bring a little class to the glamorous proceedings.

Put it away!

ZARA LARSSON

A photo posted by Zara Larsson (@zaralarsson) on

We are huge fans of Zara Larsson's music and her youthful style is almost always a win which is why this lace dress did little to flaunt this, instead somewhat ageing her.

Jokingly describing herself as a "baby angel slut" on her Instagram, it seems as if Zara was going for something floaty and angelic with a touch of danger but we didn't get any sex appeal from this outfit which seemed a bit old fashioned.

The Ermanno Scervino long sleeved dress could potentially have saved if paired with better shoes also, as the black sandals didn't appear to complete the look of the angel.

Still, Zara completely shut down the show with her performance of "Lush Life" and "Ain't My Fault" as well as picking up an award - so we're sure she can cope with a few negative critiques for her outfit choice.

CHARLOTTE DAWSON

Finally, we have Charlotte Dawson from Ex On The Beach who opted to try her hand at theatrical glamour but ultimately ended up looking quite cheap.

It can't be easy to step up onto the red carpet amongst style icons such as Jourdan Dunn and Nina Dobrev, but Charlotte's look missed the mark on many counts and even seemed confused, as she matched an up-do that seemed as if she were going to a ball, with a sheer gown that detracted from any classy angle she was hoping to hit.

She certainly made the effort but the over the top detailing and dramatic nature of it all felt completely wrong when teamed up with a dodgy spray tan and way too much flesh on show, leaving the whole look feeling inexpensive.
