Kanye West: "I would've voted for Trump"

Kanye West is becoming quite well known for his crazy outbursts and political speeches but has he crossed a line this time?

Kanye West was performing in San Jose last night for his Saint Pablo Tour, throughout his performance (and many others before) he took a break in between his songs and decided to rant about the election that has just passed. In previous shows, he has used this break to talk about other artists, race and politics. San Jose was a little bit different.

Kanye has made headlines for saying that, if he would have voted (which is controversial in itself), then he would have voted for Donald Trump - the Republican elect-president. This makes me want to stop writing, ending with an abrupt "I'm done." But I'll continue.
Kanye reportedly stated that Trump's campaign was "entertaining" and "genius", and that he is still running for president in 2020. It's quite shocking that Kanye, a black artist who has quite regularly talked about race relations and racism, would support a man who has said: "If black lives don't matter, then go back to Africa" in response to a Black Lives Matter sign.

Kanye revealed that he had been a Trump supporter for a while but Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber's and Ariana Grande's manager) advised him not to tell people his choice. The whole speech has caused a great backlash for the singer and it isn't surprising. Trump's campaign was filled with racist, islamophobic and sexist comments which offended many people and his win has led to many minorities and women in America feeling unsafe.

Of course, Kanye is entitled to his opinion, even if that opinion is that Donald Trump is the best thing since sliced bread, but he may have now finally alienated and pushed his fan base too far. After hurricane Katrina, he said live on a TV fundraiser that "George Bush doesn't care about black people". It seems that his fame and wealth has made his opinions change a little, even claiming that America spends too much time talking about racism, how things change.

That being said, Kanye and Trump are not too different in their narcissism and need for attention, they both have public tantrums, have said misogynistic things and are very inexperienced, so Kanye probably now thinks that if Trump wins he can win the election in 2020. It wouldn't be the weirdest presidential elect, would it?
