Should celebrities put aside their political differences for work?
Ewan McGregor has openly refused to appear on Good Morning Britain, claiming that he did not know Piers Morgan was the host of the show.
The Trainspotting star decided to cancel his appearance on the show after he realised Piers Morgan hosted the show and made negative comments about the Women's March. The Women's March was set up to protect policies and laws regarding human rights, including women's rights. The marches were aimed at Donald Trump, after his remarks which were deemed misogynistic.
Ewan McGregor tweeted saying that he would not go on the show after his comments about the protest.
In a weird sort of way, when McGregor decided to call Piers Morgan out on his opinions, he became one of the many celebrities who have supported the anti-Trump movement, along with Rihanna, Madonna and Miley Cyrus. Now you may think that it could be unprofessional to mix your work and political views, but you have to admit that there's a slight difference between somebody arguing with their boss in the office and a celebrity deciding to stand up for a particular cause.
Whether you like it or not, celebrities also have a job to be a good force for positive change, with their powerful voices and platforms they really need to show the public who they should also be supporting, and unfortunately (for fans) that probably isn't Piers Morgan. Piers morgan has made some terrible comments about transgender people, feminism, women and the Black Lives Matter movement, and it is really no surprise to anybody that he has shown support for the likes of Donald Trump. For him to then state that it is unprofessional to not let people have different opinions is also rather ironic as he continues to push his views on people - which can be shown on Good Morning Britain.
For those also worried that Ewan McGregor's new film has now not been promoted enough, I'm pretty sure that this has actually created more publicity than any interview possibly could.

Piers Morgan replied saying that a "real man" (whatever that can be defined as?) would have put the political differences aside. Was going on Good Morning Britain, didn't realise @piersmorgan was host. Won't go on with him after his comments about #WomensMarch— Ewan McGregor (@mcgregor_ewan) 24 January 2017
Now, obviously Ewan McGregor's job as an actor would mean that he should promote his upcoming film, but as a public figure perhaps he can be excused; would you really want to be seen on the same television programme as somebody who has such problematic views? Does this not just normalise the damaging views that Piers Morgan holds if people act like he never said them? Sitting on a panel next to him, acting like he never said anything, almost gives him a pass on those comments. And yes he, and everybody else, can scream 'freedom of speech' and 'the right to an opinion' as much as he wants, but when those very opinions make women, the LGBT community and minorities feel unsafe, you really have to separate them from opinions like "I don't like chocolate."A real man would have come on and debated it with me, not run away like a coward. https://t.co/z5HmkFASwM— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) 24 January 2017
