Has Geordie Shore run its course?
Why aye, it's time for Geordie Shore to return to our screen for its FOURTEENTH series. Yes, fourteen.
This time around however, there's no Charlotte, there's no Holly, there isn't even a Scotty T for most of the series, though we're promised he'll make a return at some point. Instead, we've been introduced to a whole new batch of louder than life Geordies who are hoping to follow in the footsteps of their past reality stars who found fame through the MTV fly on the wall show.
Zahida, Chelsea, Sam, Sarah, Abbie, Elettra (an Italian... on Geordie Shore, we're as confused as you are), Billy and Eve. Our eight new names - but do we really care?
With Holly Hagan finally dipping out of the show after thirteen series in the house, Gaz Beadle is now the only person to have appeared in the show from the beginning, although Sophie Kasaei has recently returned after leaving for 5 series.
We're all for keeping things fresh and some new characters such as Chloe Ferry and Nathan Henry have been a hit with the viewers but there's an undeniable feeling that this show is slowly merging into a dumping ground for the Ex On The Beach rejects to prolong their fifteen minutes of fame.
At the peak of the show, viewers were gripped as Charlotte & Gaz's on/off relationship caused fights, tears and reconciliations that made the show what it was. They loved watching Holly Hagan grow from something of a spoilt teenage brat in Series 1 into one of the most adored characters as the series passed by and Vicky Pattison's acid tongue always offered a fun relief from some of the stupidity.
Now, as we head into Series 14, almost all of the big characters that the public grew an emotional connection with have departed and there's an evident feeling that the Geordie ship has sailed.
Gaz himself has even fuelled speculation he will soon be leaving and you can't really blame him, having watched all of his original cast mates flee the show to move onto other projects.
With the Holly & Kyle saga being removed from the show and with Marnie in a relationship during the filming for most of Series 14, it seems that the newer characters are going to take up a huge amount of focus in the new series.
We're sure Gaz will hook up with several of them and Marty will have a predictable bust-up with his ex (bringing an ex onto Geordie Shore, what an original idea from MTV!) but nothing that will garner that same emotional connection that the viewers had with characters of the past.
Perhaps it's time to call it a day for Geordie Shore, they must be tired of trying to recycle the same old storylines surrounding "who's shagged who?" for the past 5 years after all.
As far as I can see, for Geordie Shore, it's a little more "tah ra pet" than "why aye".
